These beautiful, solid metal Unity/Nuptial Crucifixes come imported from Portugal, where they are individually cast and finished. They are 7.5 inches tall x 6 inches wide and come with a notch on the back for wall hanging. Anyone who has attended a course or event led by Christopher West has seen this unique Unity/Nuptial Crucifix

"The Unity Cross was originally designed in Brazil in 1960 by Fr. Angel Vicente Cerro of the Schoenstatt Movement, a Marian Apostolic movement of the Catholic Church. It depicts the Virgin Mary — the "woman" at the foot of the cross — as an icon of the Church and humanity, receiving the blood of the crucified Christ in a chalice. It is the moment of the mystical, spousal union of the New Adam and the New Eve (see pp. 120-123 of At the Heart of the Gospel for a discussion of this mystery).

"The asymmetrical yet balanced shape of the cross is unique to Cerro's design. It expresses the tender, organic movements of Divine Providence.

"The Unity Cross was adopted by Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta as a symbol for her community and a large Unity Cross is prominent in the chapel of the motherhouse of the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India. In 1981, it was given to Pope John Paul II by the Schoenstatt family after he was shot in Saint Peter's Square. According to Cardinal Secretary of State Agostino Casaroli, it was a comfort and companion for the Holy Father during that 'trying hour.'"
